How Court Colors Work

Most courts have two main colors. One color is for the playing area inside the lines. The other color is for the area outside the lines. Some courts also use a third color for the kitchen. The kitchen is the no-volley zone near the net.

The color comes from an acrylic coating. It goes on top of the concrete or asphalt base.

Popular Color Combos

Here are a few common picks:

  • Blue inside, green outside: A classic look.
  • Blue inside, light blue outside: Clean and modern.
  • Green inside, darker green outside: Blends in with a lawn.
  • Purple, red, or gray: Bold choices that stand out.

Ask our crew for a color chart. Coating makers often have many choices.

See the Ball Clearly

Pickleballs are often bright yellow or green. Pick a court color that makes the ball stand out. Many players find blue courts make a yellow ball easy to see.

If your ball and court are close in color, the ball can get lost. Bring your favorite ball when you look at color samples.

Think About Heat and Sun

Tennessee summers are hot. Darker colors can feel warmer in the sun. Lighter colors may show dirt more. Ask our crew how each color holds up in heat and sun over time.

Match Your Home and Yard

Your court is part of your yard. Think about how it will look from your back porch. A green court can blend in with grass. A blue court can look nice near a pool.

If you live in an HOA, check their rules first. Some HOAs have rules about colors you can see from the street. Our HOA guide can help.

Line Colors

Court lines are usually white. White lines are easy to see on most colors. Lines should be 2 inches wide. If you also want tennis or basketball lines, use a different color for those. That keeps things clear during a game.

School and Church Courts

Schools and churches often use their own colors. A court in team colors can bring a lot of pride. Learn more on our church and school courts page.

Tips Before You Decide

  • Look at real color samples outside, in the sun. Screens can make colors look different.
  • Look at photos of finished courts in the colors you like.
  • Ask family members to vote. It's their court too!
  • Think about how the colors will look in five years, not just today.
  • Ask how often that color may need to be refreshed.

Lighter and brighter colors can fade or show wear in different ways. Our crew can tell you what they see hold up best.
